![]() ![]() Over the course of the campaign my monk made me 3 holy waters, plus 3 more from the ancient temple, that's a huge advantage in your favor. If you think you're going after the Black Monolith at some point, get a monk ASAP. Give your dedicated tank a Resolve potion (along with the Second Wind potion) to make sure he doesn’t get Horrified! Lower than that, you will lose too many turns with the Horrify stun. On those Bros with a low starting RES, getting at least the +5 RES Arena bonus and a Hexen Trophy necklaces can do the trick. You need your whole team to be around RES 60 to be more or less safe. My conclusions, or Things I Wish I Had Read Before The Black Monolith: I was kinda distracted (I play mostly at night when I'm already tired) and made a couple of grave mistakes, and even so I made it with just a couple of casualties - one was avoidable, the other was to be expected (see my conclusions below). If they are sufficiently equipped and with high enough stats, it's not particularly difficult as a battle. Halfway through the battle I realized that, up to some extent, the Black Monolith isn't so much about tactics but a performance test of your group. That way, even those backliners who did not have Quick Hands had enough time to change back to its weapons without missing a beat.Īnyway, to cut a long story short. In the first they threw it and jumped back to their position in the backline, while the frontline just skipped their turn. I only made one change to the general strategy: instead of using frontliners to throw the holy water, I put my backline in front of the group with the holy water. That does work in general - although I reckon that it could be done differently, for instance the other way around: going directly after the north group and putting the tank in charge of keeping the southern group busy while the holy water makes its job. I posted asking for advice, got some good tips (thanks guys!) and started a new run aimed at building a group specifically for the Black Monolith (although I'll go now after goblin city and library - not so sure about the Kraken, it sounds tiresome).Īmong the most common recommendation, there was a general plan: sending a sacrificial tank to hold the north flank, spraying the southern group with holy water and then wiping it out as fast as possible, and then going for the Conqueror and the rest. I don't enjoy grinding so once I reach that stage I usually start a new run - but I wanted to defeat it at least once. Game code contains Axe Mastery for Ancient Honor Guards, but this weapon type is never actually used, therefore is removed from the perk table.I did it! For those who might not know, I have played the game for hundreds of hours, but never bothered going after the Black Monolith - mostly because I try to keep brothers alive as much as possible, and once I reached the lategame I just had too many sub-optimal bros to take on these endgame challenges.Gunners with overwhelm can debuff them and chip away at their armor, though battles with Honorguard tend to go faster than the ones with legionaries due to their frontlines more offensive weapon choice.Use armor destroying weapons like you would on orc warriors warhammers, fighting axes, billhooks.Don't bring spears, bows, crossbows, javelins or slings since they aren't as effective. Can be reanimated by a Necromancer, has high priority to be resurrected.Causes very harsh resolve checks through Fearsome.Hand-to-Hand Attack does 5-10 with 50% and 10% (has -10 ) They were once among the finest and most dedicated warriors of their time, and although now but bones in rusty armor, their skill still echoes through their every swing of the sword. Honor guards make use of heavy weaponry from all corners of the ancient empire, such as the warscythe, the rhomphaia and a two-handed cleaver. No longer a man, but the manifestation of the emperor’s will, the honor guard was encased entirely in armor that did not show any flesh, becoming essentially a living, moving and fighting statue. The highest honor a common legionary could hope to achieve, joining the honor guard involved a symbolic death to shed the weakness and frailty of man, and being transformed into a tool of the emperor. ![]() Recruited from the ranks of veteran legionaries are the ancient honor guard, once used as personal bodyguards and as heavy infantry to tip the scales of battle. ![]()
